Build

I know what you’re thinking… “A heat sensitive grow light? Is this a joke?” Nope. This is one of the most exciting lights to hit the market in a long time, and it could be just what you need to take your plants to new heights.

The Scorpion Diablo comes with an excellent build quality. It is designed for growing with low ceiling heights. The grow light uses six QB648 Diablo Quantum Boards.

QB648 is the latest LED module design by HLG and made by Samsung. Each board has 648 pcs high-intensity Samsung LM301H (white) LEDs. They also have 64 Deep Red 660 nm LEDs. It can spread at 12" from the canopy.

The Reliable passive-cooled design keeps the light away from overheating. Thanks to the dimmable feature, you can dim the light as you needed.

Auto sensing Inventronics power supply supports both 120VAC, 240VAC and 277VAC. Build information proves that, it is perfect for all stages of plants.

Coverage Area

If you have used grow light already, you might know, coverage area is the most important component for a grow light. The Scorpion Diablo comes with an excellent coverage area illumination.

During Veg stage from 18” height, it can cover 5×5 feet (1.52 meters) coverage area, and during flowering stage from 24” can cover 6×6 feet (1.83 meters) coverage area.

Spectrum

The natural sunlight is always a blessing. However, if you are using grow light for plants, it must have full spectrum lights according to the growth phase.

The grow light offers white spectrum and 660 nm deep red LEDs for full spectrum light output. Your plants will get enough light for sustainability. It ensures that, the HLG grow light can provide everything to your plants like sunlight.

FAQs

Q: What LEDs does it use?
A: The HLG Scorpion Diablo grow light uses Samsung LM301H LEDs.

Q: What color spectrum does it use?
A: It uses a white spectrum and 660 nm deep red.

Q: What is the recommended mounting height above canopy?
A: Minimum 15” from ceiling or hanging structure. For flower, I recommend 18” and for veg 24”. Before mounting the light, make sure the mounting structure supports a minimum of 32 lbs.

How to Get Maximum Yield

In the hydroponics world, growing is all about yields. And yields rely on the amount of light you can deliver to your plants. That’s because all plants need light to photosynthesize — meaning, turn sunlight into energy for growth. But how much light do they really need?

For growers, one of the most important things to know is how to get good yields.

By using Screen of Green (SCROG) method you can achieve maximum yield. Put your net over the top of the plants. After poking a branch through by 4 inches, tie is horizontally to the net.

Some Tips

  1. To achieve the best result, I recommend keeping the temperature of grow room at 78° F — 85° F.
  2. As HLG Scorpion Diablo is a high power grow light, so you need to be dimmed for VEG use.
  3. If you use a timer with 220V or more, you should use a dual pole timer.
  4. Install the light fixture on a non-combustable surface only.

My opinion: The Scorpion Diablo built very well and runs much cooler than HLG 650R. It is suitable for lower ceiling and vertical applications. If you haven't any budget issue, I recommend you to buy Scorpion Diablo, if not go for 650R.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a full spectrum LED grow light that would help you cultivate various indoor plants, then the HLG Scorpion Diablo is an excellent choice.
